FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of ■ the Patriotic Society was held on r J hursday evening, at the Council Chandlers. The President (Mr A. Fraser) occupied the chair, and there was a fair attendance of

members present. Correspondence was received from the War Relief Association of W ellington, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, regarding the necessity of amalgamating all Patriotic Societies in the Wellington district. —lt was decided to agree to the amalgamation proposals, and if same eventuate, to alliliate with the War Belief Association of Wellington. This will considerably extend the -cope of the local Society, and cases of Foxton men requiring assistance will he settled from a. very large fund instead of from the -mall amount collected locally.

It was agreed to donate £5 monthly to the fund being raised to provide extra comforts for our sick a.ud wounded in England and Egypt, fd.nnu monthly is to he forwarded from New Zealand for this purpose.

Arrangements have been made to secure a suitable badge for the members of the Society from Sydney, and same are expected about the end of the month.

The secretary reported that two local returned soldiers had been granted £1 per week by the Pensions Board, and another local man had I teen granted £1 lbs per week for 12 months. These men are also being assisted by the local Society, and Mr McAllister has been granted a return voyage to Adelaide, where he will spend the winter, having been instructed by flic Health Department that the New Zealand winter would be too severe for him.

The proceeds of Patriotic boxes for April are estimated to be £24. The takings of the Patriotic Shop to date are £149 8s 10d, being a weekly average of £7 9s 10d, the shop having been opened on 20 Saturdays. This result far exceeds expectations, mid the ladies have received very hearty congratulations on the splendid results. Another patriotic box has been, sltMcn, this time from Mrs Walls’ Mmp, and the broken remains were discovered in a hack section. The Society intends to take drastic steps to stop this dispicahle thieving, and has placed the matter in the hands of the police. The Patriotic Simp is open as usual to-day, under Mesdames A. Boss and Mandl. The consignment of apples from Motueka has not arrived, the vessel having been weather-bound at Picton. The cuses should arrive on Tuesday, and will be disposed of privately. The secretary will he pleased to receive enquiries.
