CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor)

Sir. —I read an anonymous letter in your paper the other day complaining of the method used in publishing the amount received by the local Patriotic Society through the agency of the collecting boxes. But, what is there to complain about ? When the scheme was started I expected that certain districts would give more than the district in which my home is situated, (Avenue Road) and, that other districts would give less. These expectations have been realised and I cannot see that it makes any difference because the “expected” results have been published. I am not jealous of the one, nor do I despise the other. Certainly, I should have been surprised and disappointed if both, or either, of these expected results had not been obtained. May I point out to “Worker” the fact, that the members of the local Patriotic Society are a reasonable body of men and women, who will listen willingly to any suggestions that are laid before them for improving the work. Our object to obtain as much money as possible for the worthy object the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund and that object is not served by causine dissatisfaction through the local press.—-Yours etc., W. Raine, Member of the Executive. All Saints’ Vicarage, Foxton, 29th March, 1916. (To the Editor.) Sir.—l notice by the report of the last meeting of the local Patriotic Society that no mention was made of the secrecy which was to be observed in the publication of the amounts contributed in the collection boxes. I think a mistake has been made in publishing the totals collected in each division instead of the sum total every quarter, and the sooner the Society publicly notifies that only the total is to be published each quarter, the better it will be for an otherwise good scheme. —Yours etc., Worker.
