The prices fluctuate a little over the three months, but taking, July the figures are as follow for the articles named Flour (251 b bag)—Wellington, 4s n-%d ; London, 5s Bread (2lb) —Wellington, 5d ; London, Mutton (leg) —Wellington, sj£d ; London, English is 2d, New Zealand irozen Mutton (loin)— Wellington, 5%d ; London, English is 3d ; New Zealand lod. Beef (prime ribs) — Wellington, 6 ; London, English is 4d, chilled is 2d. Rump steak —Wellington, lod ; London, English is Bd, chilled is 3d. Cheese Wellington, io)^d; London, English is 2d, Canadian is id, New Zealand is id. Sugar—Wellington, 3d per lb. ; London, per lb. These figures show that the actual goods themselves, quality for quality, are cheaper here than at Home. Cheaper-priced qualities are, however, purchasable by the masses at Home, and are more commonly used. In making comparisons of the respective costs of living, a higher condition of living be allowed for in New Zealand ; and cheaper rents and clothes and other necessities tend to make living for a working man cheaper by, it is computed, about 25 per cent, in London than in New Zealand.
