INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
The cases notified yesterday as occurring in the Wellington Health District were as follow Kilbirnie 1, Hawera i, Inglewood 1, Palmerston North 1, Rlwaka 2, Picton 1. Otaki's first case of infantile paralysis has proved the dread disease claiming as its victim the bright and talented seventeen-year-old daughter (Una) of Mr Horton Bright (chairman of the Otaki Town Board.) two more cases at HASTINGS. Hastings, MARCH 22. Two more cases of infantile paralysis were admitted to the hospital yesterday, one being an infant from Sherenden and the other a four-year-old child within the borough. POSITION IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, March 20. Eight cases ot infantile paralysis were reported to-day, seven from the country and one from the city. The death of a male, 49 years ot age, has occurred in the country. The total cases now number 400, and the total deaths 38. Three of to day’s cases in the country came from places not previously affected by the epidemic. IN SOUTH CANTERBURY. Timaru, March 21. There are now five cases of infantile paralysis in South Canterbury, two at Timaru of children of three years and seven years respectively, one each from Fairlie, a child of three months, Orari, 21 years, and Otipua, 19 years. One or two are doubtful, and only one is serious. REQUEST BY EDUCATION BOARD. Christchurch, March 22. The Education Board to day decided to ask the Health Department to supply practical instructions for the treatment and cure ot infantile paralysis, the information to be passed on by the board to teachers and parents.
