A PLUCKY RESCUE.

A plucky rescue was effected by Master W. F. Seeker ia the Manawatu River at Palmerston on Sunday morning. Three ladies had attempted to swim the river in its swollen state, and one had lost her nerve and was rapidly drowning. Seeker, with a boy named Taylor, immediately dived in and swam to the rescue. Taylor attempted to help the lady out ot the current, but he was dragged under on each attempt,, and finally desisted. Seeker then took charge, and, after an arduous swim, brought the lady to a log, where, after a breathing space, he was able to help her to the shore. Seeker’s performance was a very fine one, in view of the flooded condition of the river.
