SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the local State school committee was held last night, Present; Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rev Raine (secretary), Dr Mandl, Chrystall, Hussey, Henderson, Perreau, Woods, and the head teacher (Mr Jackson). The Chairman’s action in applying to have the school closed for a period of one week in order to have the class rooms thoroughly cleansed, disinfected and fumigated was endorsed, i'he Chairman said action had b:en taken only after consultation with the local medical men. and a letter bearing on the subject was read from Dr Mandl. It was pointed out that Board members were empowered to close the schcols from day to day, if circumstances warranted it, but taking all the local circumstances into consideration it was thought that the safest course would be to close the school lor a definite period. The Board had sanctioned the Chairman’s actioh. Several accounts were passed for payment. A lengthy discussion took place in respect to the ventilation of certain class rooms. The Chairman stated that the Board’s foreman had visited the school and had prepared an estimate of the cost of erecting two doors on the outside walls of two of the classrooms. The Committee inspected the rooms, and decided to call tenders for the fixing of doors in class-rooms VI. and IV., and additional windows for the infant room. The Chairman, Secretary, and Mr Chrystall were appointed a sub-committee with power to act. - ,
The Chairman stated that Mr Fraser had obtained from the Board £1 for £1 subsidy for the work. Other routine business was discussed, and the meeting rose.
