The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, March 9, 1916. SPEEDING-UP THE FOXTONPALMERSTON TRAIN.
The Borough Council is to be commended for lodging a protest with the General Manager of Railways in respect to the late arrival of the Palmerston-Foxton trains. This protest will strengthen the hands of Mr Field M.P., who has already communicated the facts to the Minister who is causing enquiries to be made. The running ot two or three specials during the week would relieve the pressure and allow the ordinary trains to run up to time. It is also alleged that the engine used on this line for the ordinary trains is not sufficiently powerful to cope with the loads it is expected to draw and it is not uncommon for it to come to a standstill at the slight up-grade a few hundred yards from the station. An improvement on the present state of things is urgent.
