HELPING HAND FUND.

A meeting oi the committee of the above Fund was held in the council chamber last night. Present : Mesdames Frank Robinson, C. Robinson, James Robinson, Harvey, Mandl, Misses J. Ross, Robinson, and Messrs G. H. Stiles, W. Ross, F. Symes (treasurer), and C. J. Kent-Johnston (secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman (Mr Stiles) explained that the meeting was called in consequence of a letter received from the secretary of the Patriotic Society drawing attention to the case of a female, whose husband had gone to the front and lelt her very badly off. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr W. Ross, “that £s be handed to Mrs James Robinson and the Secretary, to be expended in the case.”

It was resolved on the motion of Mr W. Ross, seconded by Mr Symes, “That Mesdames James Robinson, Mandl, the Chairman

(Mr G. H. Stiles), the Treasurer (Mr Symes), and the Secretary (Mr C. J. Kent-Johnston), be an executive committee with power to deal with any future cases of distress that may arise.” It was resolved, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Symes, “That the Secretary write to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, pointing out that though this Committee is assisting this case, it considers that it is a case where there should be assistance from the Board, and to ask what the Board intends to do in the matter.”

It was resolved on the motion of Mr Symes, seconded by Mr W. Ross, “That the Secretary write to the Patriotic Society and state that this Committee considers that the Patriotic Society should render some assistance iff the case as well as the Helping Hand Committee, and would be glad to know what that society intends to do in the matter.” The meeting then terminated.
