THE GAS WORKS.
JANUARY WORKING. The amount of gas manufactured at the local works during the month of January was 348,300 ft., which with the amount in holder on January Ist 5000 ft. made a total of 353,300 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 134,200 ft. (cookins and heating) 85,600 f-t, (power) 75,100 ft. used in street lamps 20,200 ft., used at works 21,500 ft., and there was 4,500 ft. in bolder on February 2nd leaving 14,200 ft., representing four per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. Twenty-nine tons ot coal was carbonised, yielding 1,2000 ft. per ton. The earnings amounted to is 4d, made upas follows: Gas sales (lighting) 14s 3d, (heat and power) 4s 2d, meter rent 9s, coke sales 2s 3d, tar sales 13s 6d, weighing 6s, and fitting account ,£26 12s. The expenditure was as follows : Coal £3B Ss 6d, salaries and wages £27 6s lod, labour (services) 7s, (fittings) £5 2s, (mains) £3 10s, pipes (services) £9 19s 6d, fittings £26 7s id, tools 4s Sd, working expenses £7 os gd, printing and advertising 3s 6d, interest and sink-ing-fund £59 ns Bd, total £177 12s 6d.
