The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, February 12, 1916. DWELLINGS UNFIT FOR HABITATION.
At Thursday’s meeting of the District Hospital Board, the Health Officer reported that a certain occupied dwelling in Foxton was unfit for habitation. In describing the house the officer stated that rags were stuffed in the sashes in place of glass and in other respects the house was not fit for human habitation. Mr Hornblow pointed out that there were several other dwellings in the borough nnfit for habitation which the officer should inspect and report upon. The Board unanimously agreed that an inspection should be made and steps taken to safeguard the health of the occupants. There are at least half-a-dozen buildings in the borough which should be condemned or made habitable by the owners. The Borough Council has the power to deal with this matter independent ot the Board, but failing such action then the health authorities will step in.
