ILLEGALLY ON LICENSED PREMISES.

At the local S. M. Court yesterday, Frank Kdlin and Harry Adin were charged with being on licensed premises to wit, the Mauawatu Hotel, on Dec. 19th, at a time when such premises are required by law to be closed. There was no appearance of accused. Constables Woods and Hanlon gave evidence that they louud the men leaving the premises by the fire escape. One stated that he was on the premises to look for a “cobber” and the other said they had no excuse.' Both men smelt of .liquor. Both, accused were fined £1 and costs 7s, in defult seven days hard labour.

A charge against two residents for being on licensed premises on Christmas Day was adjourned till Feb, 25th. Harry Hoskings, for being found on licensed plemises, to wit the Post Office Hotel on Dec. 24th, during the currncy of a prohibition order, was fined 40s and 7s costs. Accused, who pleaded guilty, said as it was the festive season he got a little out of bounds. He asked for six mouths in which to pay the fine. The Magistrate granted lour weeks in delault seven days.
