BREACHES OF THE BOROUGH BY-LAWS.

CYCLISTS FINED. The borough by-laws, which prohibit the riding of bicycles on footpaths, have been honoured more in the breach than the observance. Of late there have been complaints against this breach of the by-laws, and the police have been keeping a wary eye on offenders, and as a result W. Smith, Abraham Smith and K. Furrie were charged before Mr J. W. Poyntou, S.M. yesterday, by the police with breaches of the by-laws. There was no appearance of the offenders, and after evidence had been given by Constable Hanlon the Magistrate imposed a fine of 20s and 7s costs in each case.
