BREACH OF WAR REGULATIONS.
Regulation 4 of the War Regulations provides that: “No person shall publish any statement or matter likely to interfere with the recruiting of His Majesty’s Forces.” At Wellington yesterday, John Murrell Murrell was charged with a breach of this regulation. His offending consisted of circulating a pamphlet entitled, “Christianity and the War.” His Honour said that the maximum penalty was but in this case he thought a light fine of would meet the ends of justice. He would warn defendant and others, however, that future publications would not be dealt with so lightly. The offence was a very serious one against the State at the present time, when men were being called for.
