RUST IN WHEAT.
BAD NEWS FROM RANGI TIKEI. Rust unfortunately has displayed itself in the wheat areas in the Rangidkei district, where this year especially large areas are under cultivation. Some samples showed oaten leaves badly tainted with rust, and the larmer sending them said that one of the samples was of Federation wheat and the other solid straw Tuscan, The rust had only showed itself during the last few days, and from appearances it looked as if the wheat might come to nothing. The crop from which the samples were taken bad looked a seventybushel crop. The writer understood all, or nearly all, the crops about Bulls and Marlon were rusted in the same and it was possible they •• ■ .1 return no milling wheat. Oats growing alongside showed 110 signs ot disease. The Prime Minister has informed the Minister for Agriculture of the matter, who will make due investigation. It is now apparent that most of the North Island crops have this unfortunate taint.
