TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.
The Town Clerk reported as follows at last night's Council meeting : “I have the honour to report that the road staff has been engaged as under since last meeting viz., Grubbing lupins at Pound Reserve, grubbing stumps at Cemetery, screening metal in yard, spreading metal Moutoa road, falling ruts Avenue road and No. 6 Liue, filling in wash-out in IJnion street, cleaning water channels, mowing Triangle. By direction of His Worship the Mayor, the staff was put on to the tarring of Main street on November 24th, and up to date 65 casks of tar have been used ou the work, and from all appearances, when the tar gets dried iu, a great improvement will be noticed as regards the reduction of the dust nuisance. Cr Stevenson said the tarring of the Main street was being done in an unsatisfactory manner. There was not enough being put on, the consequence being that it was wearing through already in places. Cr Henderson agreed with Cr Stevenson. He did not think the job would give salisfactiou when finished. He did not think it was the right time for this class of work. The Mayor said that according to the motion ou the book this work was to be undertaken first. He considered the best time to put the tar ou was as soon after rain as the street was dry enough for the work to be done. Cr Coley did not think the job would give satisfaction ; it was money thrown away.
