OBITUARY.

MR C. H. COLLINS—AGED 69. Death has removed from our midst another of New Zealand’s early settlers and one of Foxton’s oldest residents, in the person of Mr Chides Henry Collins, who passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs W. Kirkley, Johnston Street, Foxton, last night. The late Mr Collins had been in very indifferent health for some years past and for the last two months had been confined to his room. The deceased gentleman, who was 69 years of age, was born in Salford, England, and was the youngest sou of the late Captain Collins, R.N., Isle of Wight. He came to New Zealand in .1870 in the ship Queen Bee, to join his brother, the late Mr J. M. Collins, in the flaxmilling business in Foxton, being one of the pioneers in this industry, their mill, which was situated on the site at present occupied by the rope works, being the first flaxmill in Foxton. The late Mr Collins was married in 1875 to Matilda Frances Symons, daughter oi the late Mr C. H. Symons, one of New Zealand’s pioneers. Mr and Mrs Collins spent the whole of their married life in Foxton, with the exception of some three or four years spent in Hastings. The deceased leaves, a widow, three sous, Charles (Dannevirke), Frederick (a member of the Ninth Reinforcements at present in camp at Tauherenikau) and Gordon (Hastings) and five daughters, Mrs W. Petrie (Foxton), Mrs W. Kirkley (Foxton), Mrs Small (Hastings), Mrs F. Petersen (Hastings) and Mrs J. Holt (Hastings) to mourn their loss, to whom in common with their many friends we extend our sympathy. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon, leaving Mrs Klrkley’s residence at 2 o’clock for the Foxton Cemetery,

MRS J. NELSON—AGED 37. The death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital on Tuesday night, of Mrs John Nelson of Foxton. The deceased was only 37 years of age. She had been in indifferent health for some two or three mouths past, and about ten days ago was removed to the Hospital. The immediate cause 01 death was heart failure. The ‘ate Mrs Nelson was born at Oxford, Canterbury, and was a daughter of Mr Pr.gg, o»’ Christchurch. Tae deceased is survived by a husband and four young children for whom much sympathy is felt. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon, leaving the residence Johnston Street, at 2.30 o’clock for the Foxton Cemetery.
