GREEK REPLY TO THE ENTENTE.
A REFUSAL TO DEMOBILISE THE ARMY. A THREAT TO EXECUTE BRITISH AND FRENCH SOLDIERS. London, November 30. All of the European capitals are preoccupied with the Balkan tangle. The anxiety is intensified by the publication of the Greek reply to the Entente, which declares that Greece will maintain a benevolent neutrality so long as her sovereign rights are not infringed, but no restrictions of a military character are to be imposed. The reply contends that, with Salonika and its railways in the hands of the Allies, the Greek forces are deprived of their only provisioning base* German newspapers are publishing extravagant articles showing the attitude of pro-German Greeks. A leading Athens politician, interviewed, stated that King Constantine and General Dusmanis, consider Italy even more dangerous than Bulgaria. Italy wants Epirus. It would be better for Turkey to hold Constantinople than Russia. It the FrancoBritish troops are driven back, they will be certainly interned. There will be plenty of highlyplaced personages in the army capable of being used as hostages if the Allies bombard the coast. Greece can shoot so many British and French officers and execute a certain number of soldiers for every Greek ship sunk. Enough Britishers can be captured to save Greece from bombardment.
