SEA SPORT.
There’s big game in the jungle; There’s blackcock on the hill, There’s a ten mile point cross country ; From a cover to a kill. But the biggest sport’s provided, By the billows grey and green ; In the stalking and the bagging, Of a German submarine. She’s a formidable quarry, With her cunning and her strength; But the ocean hounds draw closer, And they pull her down at length. No more she’ll drown our babies, Or jeer at women’s moans ; As they send her to the bottom, To torpedo Davy Jones. On the leaden waste of waters, Our pack can show its pace; Comes a “tally ho !” by wireless — And they’re out to bag a brace— Oh ! of all the brute creation, That run or swim or crawl; The hunting of the U boats, Shows the finest sport of all ! —Jessie Pope.
