, liquidating a church DEBT.

A congregational meeting of the local Presbyterian Church, convened by the minister, was held last evening, when there was a fair and representative gathering present. The meeting opened with prayer, after which the minister, Rev. J, H. Bredin, explained why he had called them together. He stated that he had ascertained there was a debt on the church. He did not like debts, and if church members recognised what the Church stood for and their individual responsibility in connection with same, the debt would be wiped off without resorting to any questionable methods of raising money. It was a matter for the meeting to decide what steps would be taken to this end. Alter some discussion, it was unanimously decided that the debt be liquidated by voluntary giving, and twenty-two members present or represented contributed £so. Mr J- M. Barr was appointed treasurer of the fund, and the following committee consented to wait upon members and adherents to complete the effort: Mesdames Buglass, Hornblow, Mandl, Renton, Alex. Ross and Miss J. Ross. The minister thanked the congregation for its attendance, and the splendid response and enthusiasm displayed.
