ROYAL LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.

DEMONSTRATION AT THE

SEASIDE

As previously mentioned, a team from the Wellington centre of the above society will give a demonstration at the local seaside on Sunday afternoon next, at 2.30 o’clock, when the uses of the surf life-saving reel and the laud drills of the society as applied for rescne of, release from, and resuscitation of the apparently drowned will be demonstrated. The object of the visit is to bring about the formation of a local life-saving club, whose objects would depend upon objects calculated to materially lessen the serious loss of life by drowning in this locality. It is unnecessary for us to stress the necessity for the formation of such a club here in Foxton and at the seaside, which latter is visited by hundreds of visitors every year. The river and seaside have already taken toll of a number of lives, some of whom may have been saved bad proper appliances been at hand and a knowledge of how to treat the apparently drowned displayed. The Wellington centre has had the Foxton demonstration in, view for two or three years, but the expense entailed has necessitated repeated postponements. Now, however, the centre has been fortunate enough to secure the services of a number of men who are prepared to defray their own expenses, and we feel sure they can accomplish a great deal of good work with the cooperation of Foxton residents and those interested in the seaside. The demonstration will not be particularly spectacular, but a person who is interested in acquiring a knowledge of the safest, surest, and easiest methods of saving life will witness an honest endeavour to lucidly illustrate them. The new method of resuscitation that will be employed is that of Professor Schafer, which has proved its efficiency also as a means of restoring animation in persons suffering suffocation from contact with poisonous gases. The Centre desires to have themselves excused for arranging the demonstration on a Sunday, but this course is rendered necessary by reason of the fact that the demonstrators find it difficult to leave their work to travel honorarily during the week. Anyhow, none but the most bigoted or ignorant would take exception to the demonstration being held on Sunday under the circumstances. We urge upon all of both sexes who can make it convenient to attend.
