THE SALVATION ARMY.
The Self-denial Week in connection with the Salvation Array begins this year on Saturday, October gtb, and concludes on Friday, October 15th. A great deal of the Array’s success is due to this one great yearly effort to raise funds to carry on its work of mercy and benevolence. From year to year the amount collected has risen in a most striking fashion, thus dearly indicating that the work has the increasing support of the public, which is one of the best testimonials that a work of this self-denying character can receive. The intelligent and scrupulous way in which the hinds are disbursed is a factor in the situation that commends the appeal to every section of the community. The missionary spirit which the Army has developed is one of the most .remarkable features of its entire operations. At the present moment it Is sending forth bauds of devoted men and women into countries where Christianity is still a bye-word, and into savage lands where but a short lime ago a white mart’s life was not worth a day’s purchase. Those who are earnestly and jealously desirous of the spiritual and material welfare of our country cannot but hope that the Self denial Week for 1915 may eclipse all previous years, and wish the Array every success in rts appeal.
