THE RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
THE INCREASES,
WEU.INGTON, Sept. 15
Particulars of the increased railway tariff will be Gazetted tomorrow and come into force ou the 19th of present month. All passenger fares will until further notice be increased by id for every is or fraction of is, except in certain cases mentioned elsewhere.
Fares for workers’ twelve trip commutation tickets, and workers’ weekly tickets are to remain as at present.
All charges for parcels, luggage, bicycles, horses, carriages, motor cars, dogs, milk, etc., will be increased 10 per cent, (minimum increase id), except in tabulated parcel, checked luggage, lost luggage, left luggage, left parcels rates mentioned elsewhere.
All rates, general and local for conveyance of goods and live stock (timber excepted), all charges for haulage, handling, storage, demurrage, etc,, all rates and charges in operation in respect of railway wharves, with except tion of charges for ships working overtime will also be increased 10 per cent, with a minimum increase of id.
In regard to excursion rates, first-class fares remain almost as at present 2d per mile return fare, with m'leage counted one way only, hut second-class will be increased from id per mile to 1 i-3d.
There has been a considerable increase in the rates for tourist and excursion tickets. Fares will be available over the lines in both islands for seven weeks £ll (as against : available over North Island only or South Island ouly for four weeks (instead of £b.
Luggage left on train or found unclaimed in railway premises in future will be charged 3d as lost luggage instead of Id. Left luggage will be subjected to a uniform rate of 3d on each package instead of rates being graded from 2d to fid according to weight. The package rate on left parcels is raised from 2d to 3d.
