FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.
ANNUAD MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Foxton Bowling Club was held last night. The president (Mr|F. Woods) occupied the chair and there was a good attendance of members. The annual report, as follows, and balance-sheet were read and adopted “Your committee have pleasure in submitting statement of receipts and expenditure for the 1914*15 season, and in doing so desire to congratulate the club on the very satisfactory progress made. The season opened with a bank overdraft of 3s 6d, and accounts amounting to £6 8s were outstanding. During the year the outstanding accounts have been paid and the bank overdraft reduced to £ll6 is rd, thus showing a credit on the year s actual working at ,£24 10s 3d. The statement of assets and liabilities disclose that the assets exceed the liabilities by ,£344 3s x id, a position which your committee considers is very satisfactory indeed. During last season the number of players on the green was larger than in previous years and great interest was evinced in the club competitions, which were won as follows: Colts, Mr M.. Sweeney ; handicap singles, Mr E. Ball ; Colder cup, Mr J. McColl; and handicap pairs, MessrsE. Ball and J. McColl. The thanks of the club are due to the donors of the prizes for the corapetilions. During the season a rink from the club, comprised of Messrs Whibley, McColl, Nye and Rimtner, journeyed to Dannevirke and was successful in winning the coveted Dixon Cup, and held it long enough to entitle the club to have its name engraved thereon. Foxton players also took part in the Terrace End and Palmerston tournaments, and visits were paid 10 Feilding, Otaki, Devin and Shannon. The thanks of the club are due to Messrs T. Rimtner, F. Robinson and D, Whibley for guaranteeing the overdraft at the bank, and also to Mr D. Whibley and others who assisted in the work on the green. Your committee is of opinion that it is unnecessary to employ a caretaker during the major portion of the off season and in consequence made arrangements for an alteration for the coming season. In view of Mr C. Spring’s long and faithful service to the club your committee recommend that he be made a life member. Your committee intended at the end of the past season to do certain work on the green, but through various causes were unable to do all they would have liked to have done. Their intention was to have raised money towards the cost of the improvements by different special efforts, but on account of the situation in connection with the war, and the consequent call on the public in this direction it was deemed inadvisable to attempt to do anything in the way of raising money for the club. Mr Jickell, of Palmerston North, kindly undertook to take the necessary levels of the green at the close of the season, but through his time being so fully occupied in connection with defence business, he was not able to do lire work on the green until July, and after taking the levels he recommended that only part of the work be undertaken this year—a recommendation which your committee acted upon. With the work in hand completed your committee is confident that the green this year will be in a better condition than it has been for some years past. The croquet lawns are also receiving attention and will certainly be better than they were last season. The thanks of the dull are due to the ladies for providing afternoon tea during the season, their kindness and assistance in this connection being ranch appreciated by members generally. In conclusion the committee desire to thank members for their assistance during the past year, and express the hope that the coming season’s operations will he as successful as the past.” The balance sheet showed that the receipts totalled ,£9B 2s 3d, made up of members subscriptions (ladies and gent?) .£94 15s 6d and competition fees etc. ,£3 fis gd. The expenditure, including accounts outstanding from the previous year amounted to ,£79 19s rod, the chief items being caretaker £29 os Bcl, interest £y iSs 6d, worm killer and lawn sand £7 5s and telephone ,£5. The election of officers (or the ensuing year resulted as follows : President, Mr W. Petrie ; vicepresidents, Messrs D. Whibley, P. Dnmsden and W. Nye ; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. D. Whibley ; committee, Messrs J. M. Barr and A. E. Admore; delegates to Manawatu centre, Messrs Dr. Mandl and D. R. Freeman. The following new members were elected : Messrs W. Bock, J. Robertson, G. Ruffell, E. Walker, W. C. Smith, A. Dazarette, W. Hooker, W. Signal, V. Betty, A. Wright, Hanlon, D. E. Large, W. Cook and Duff. Dr. Mandl signified his intention of presenting a trophy for competition between members of the Foxton, Devin and Shannon Clubs, only the younger members (two or three year players) to be eligible to compete for it. Mr W. Nye presented a set of ferns for rink competitions and Mr F. Woods offered a gold medal for a competition among first year players. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the donors for the prizes. The prizes won last season were presented to the winners by Mr Woods and the meeting terminated after passing a vote of thanks tQ the chair.
