HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A well attended committee meeting of the local Horticultural Society was held last night. Mr Stiles (president) occupied the chair. Matters in connection with the forthcoming Bulb Show were discussed. ’ Correspondence was read from Mr C. IT. Rhodes regretting his inability to officiate as judge at the Bulb Show, and the President stated that the services of Mrs B. Harris, of Palmerston N., bad been secured. Mrs Richard Prouse, of Eevin, wrote consenting to officiate as judge of the decorative and children’s cookery classes. Messrs A. Wigbtou and Co. wrote offering plants to the value of £\ as a points prize at. the next autumn show. Messrs Tbos. Horton Eld., wrote donating half a dozes roses, general varieties, to I l ' -"'"tied to any class the commit - .-- ..link fit. The secretary of the Hornv\ hernia 1 foil {cultural Society wrote asking for dales of Spring Show, to avoid clashing. —The secretary slated that the above society had subsequently fixed a date which was usually fixed by the local society. No action taken. It was decided to extend the date for the closing of entries for the Bulb Show to the night before the show and to receive laic entries up to 10 o’clock on the morning of the show, and the time for judging be extended to 12 o’clock. The following stewards were appointed : —Classes A. and P>,, Miss Ncylon ; C, Miss Spelrs ; D, Mrs John Robinson ; E, Mrs Pearce and Miss Kent-Johnston ; F, Mrs Renton ; G, Mrs Saunders; H, Mrs Woods ; door stewards, Messrs Henderson, Newth, Eutusden and Whibley ; sweet stall, Mrs Hillman : tea room, Mesdames Saunders and Kempster ; sheep guessing competition, Mr Kempster ; amusements, Messrs Hornblow, Jackson and Galland. The secretary reported that lire Borough Band had generously consented to give its services. Mr Galland brought forward his motion in respect to increased prrize money. He explained that the present allocation of prizes was insufficient and more encouragement should be given to exhibitors. After some discussion it; was decided to set up the following committee to go further into the matter and report to a special meeting : The President, Secretary and Messrs Jackson, Hornblow and Galland. Mr Galland withdrew his motion in respect to alterations to members subscriptions which will be discussed at the annual meeting.
