ENTERTAINMENTS.

FUELER’S PICTURES. An outstanding feature of a splendid programme screened at the Town Hall last night is, “Shadows of the Past.” The Vitagraph Company has produced many powerful plays of social life, but this decidedly clever romantic drama contains more delightful thrills than any previous effort of that company. It is at once a throbbing love story and an expose of American political graft. The story is woven around Antoinette, a very beautiful girl, secretary to a joung politician; a rival politician; and a young married couple who were once customhouse victims. The action is rapid, and pulsates with emotion ; the end veritably thrilling. Supporting items constitute a splendid programme which will be repeated to-night. WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY. A special feature of Wednesday’s change of programme is, “My Friend From India.” The plot centres around Erastus Underholt, a retired millionaire pork packer, comes to New York to get his daughters into society. His son, who is a gay young spark, is having a high old time till his father says he will disinherit him if he takes another drink. The son promises to reform, but one night he brings home with him a stranger, who is introduced to the father as the Rev James Tweedle, a theosophist from India, A reception is planned to see the great theosophist, but the family are against this and mesmerise the father and lead him to believe that the reception took place. The trouble seems over when the real Rev. James Tweedle arrives, and the daughters succeed in hoodwinking their good-natured father I With other items of exceptional merit.
