AGAINST ALLEGED GERMAN INTERESTS.
The Prime Minister has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, London : “Have been informed by New Zealand Shipping Company that East Asiatic Company, Copenhagen, are approaching firms in New Zealand, asking them to act as agents lor steamer service from Continent to New Zealand, This company has in the past had close working arrangements with German lines, and it is suspected that object of proposed line is to protect position of Germans later on. Any encouragement of this line might, in ray opinion, indirectly assist German trade and shipping.” London, Bth July.
