BOROUGH BAND.

DISPUTATION TO COUNCIL. A deputation from the Borough Band, consisting of Messrs P. Lumsdeu, C. Rand and A. Smith, waited on the Borough Council last night, being introduced by Cr Freeman. Mr Lumsdeu said the object of the deputation was to ask the Council to agree to a slight alteration in their agreement, which at present provided for the Band to play outside the Town Hall on two Saturday nights and one Wednesday night in each month. They asked that this be altered to two Saturday nights in front of the Hall and one Saturday night in the town. The Band members considered It would be better for themselves and the general public if this were done. Several questions were asked by Councillors, and the Mayor informed the deputation that the Council would deal with the matter in committee at the conclusion of the ordinary business, and advise them of the decision arrived at later, and the members withdrew. At a later stage the Council went into committee, and on resuming business the following resolution was passed: Proposed by the Mayor, and seconded by Cr Coley, that the Baud be informed that the Council cannot see its way to vary the existing agreement.
