SOCIAL.
There was a good attendance at the social held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom on Thursday night. Those present were treated to a capital concert programme, the vocal items of which were excellent as to quality and quantity, probably the best vocal programme yet submitted in connection with the series, but variety, so essential to a mixed audience, was lacking. The Rev, J. M. Thomson, M.A., occupied the chair and stated that owing to the number of items, encores would he eliminated, but he had to graciously forego this mandate in a number of cases. Those contributing to the programme were Mrs Patterson, Misses Ryantl, Signal, Kempton, Syraes (a particularly well executed pianoforte solo), Messrs Rev. Thomson, Barr, P. Robinson (who sang and accompanied himself on the violin), Aitken, S. Collins, T. -Henderson, Bnglass and Hornblow. The accompaniments were played by Misses Jenks and Signal, and Mr S. Collins. The programme included a duet and trio. A novel competition was got oil, after which refreshments were handed round. The next social of the series will be held in about a month’s time.
