RAUAKAWA MAORI ENTERTAINERS.
Handicapped by the short notice given to the public, there was a fai r and keenly appreciative audience at the Town Hall last night to witness what proved to be one of the most novel and interesting entertainments yet given locally. The company consists of 30 talented performers who have adapted themselves to stage life In a remarkable manner, and the various items were of a nature that appealed to New Zealanders. The performance throughout was excellent and it would be invidious to single out individual items for special praise. The Highland Fling, however, by a small maiden of tender years, proved a highly creditable performance. The solos by both maidens and warriors gave evidence of special training and fairly brought down the house. The hakas and poi dances were peformed with grace and realism and stirred the audience to prolonged outbursts of applause. The entertainment on its merits should attract big audiences wherever the company appears, particularly when it is remembered that the proceeds are in aid of the Wounded Soldiers Fund. The company left this morning for Palmerston N , where they show to night and continue their tour via Dannevirke, Napier and through the Wairarapa. Preliminary arrangements have been made with Mr Smith for a return visit, when the proceeds of the entertainment will be handed to that enterprising band of workers, The Girls’ Guild.
