VARIETY FAIR & BALL REALISES 8s sd. The final meeting ofthe Variety Fair. Committee was held on Tuesday afternoon, when the balance sheet was submitted and affairs lu connection with the effort wound up. The Mayor (Mr Alf. Fraser) presided. The balance sheet was presented by Mr A. J. Kellow and adopted which disclosed a profit of 8s sd. The following are the details: — The Fair receipts were as follows: Donations ,£2O 4s id, sale of tickets and door takings £±l 6s, raffles £27 ns, competitions r6s 3d, auction sales £3B 9s 6d, stalls £7B 10s 4d (made up of produce ,£2l 2s 7d, flower £2l 3s 3d, sweets 4s Sd, children’s £\ ns 6d, tobacc'' ' 1 lancy goods ,£lO xßs 3d, to >,u:co and fancy goods ,£ro iSs 3d and tearooms £9 ros id), side shows ,£2l ,)s 9:], and miscellaneous £l6 7s nd, making a total of ,£261 9s rod. The expenditure amounted to 3s 1 id, leaving a credit balance of 5s nd. The following are the details of the expenditure : Printiug and advertising £lO 9s 3d, railage 5s Sd, postage and petties 6s, prizes 21s 6d, tambourines 3s, paper for decorations 7s, children’s prizes 10s 6d, gas is. The receipts and expenditure in connection with the ball were : Receipts : Sale of tickets £8 7s 6d, door takings 17s 6d, proht on sale of paper costumes Ss, total ,£23 13s. Expenditure : Printing and advertising £i, railage and postage 2S, prizes £2 17s 6d, music £2 ns, total £b los 6d, leaving a credit balance 2s 6d. The amount to credit at the Bank of New Zealand is ,£256 9s sd, los 6d has yet to be paid for children’s prizes, leaving £9 gs 6d outstanding, The Chairman, alter making allusion to the satisfactory result of the effort, paid a tribute to the enthusiasm and splendid work done by the secretary, Mr A. J. Kellow, and to the general supervisor, Mr W. Smith. The Committee felt that some recognition should be made of their services and asked Mr Kellow to accept an engraved gold-mounted fountain pen and Mr Smith a gold mounted and engraved tobacco pouch. The presentation gifts were purchased from individual donations by members of the committee. Messrs Kellow and Smith, who were taken by surprise, expressed their thanks iu suitable terms. It was resolved that the balance in hand for the Wounded Soldiers Fund, being part of proceeds of auction sales at the Town Hall, be devoted to Miss M’Kegg’s candidature and that tickets be purchased on the motor which, if won, would be raffled again for the Wounded Soldiers Fund. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
