The ordinary monthly meeting of the local State school committee will he held on Thursday evening next at 8 o’clock.

Accounts amounting to 14s Sd were passed tor payment, at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. A report of several matters dealt with at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council are crowded out of this issue and will appear on Thursday. Weather permitting the Awahoti, hemp laden, will sail tor Wellington tonight, and the Waverley will leave for Pnponga. Mr Poynton S.M., has consented to a request to deliver another of his interesting lectures to a Foxlon audience at the etui of this month. The lecture on this occasion will be on “Light.” A synopsis of the lecture will appear in a later issue. During the month of May, 18 head of cattle were impounded by the ranger, the driving fees amounting to sixteen shillings. Three head of cattle were also impounded by a resident. It was decided at last night’s Council meeting, on the motion of Cr Bryant, seconded by Cr Stevenson, that the culvert at the junction ot Robinson and Russell Streets be extended to the footpath. Whibley, that the Council grant the use of the Council Chamber to the Foxton Young Men’s Club for a meeting once a fortnight. We are asked to request all ticket-sellers in the pony raffle to forward all unsold tickets and butts to the Borough Council Chambers on Friday next, at 3 p.m., when the guild secretaries will be there to receive them. The raffle will take place iu the Towu Hall at 9 p.m. on Saturday next.

We acknowledge, with thanks, complimentary tickets for the Patriotic Carnaval to be . held at Levin to-morrow, 16th inst., commencing at 10.30 a.m, with a monster procession from the railway station to the Park Domain. The affair promises to be the biggest effort of its kind yet held in Levin. Those attending from this district can be assured ot a good time. Bradley to-morrow afternoon, commeucingat 1 o’clock. Mr Bradley is leaving for the Auckland district, and consequently everything must be sold. The Town Clerk of Wanganui, in the Wanganui Herald ot nth instant, acknowledges from Mr Leu. Freeman, of Foxtou, twelve dozen packs of playing cards, three dozen cribbage boards, and three dozen draughts boards and men, for the Hospital Ship. This parcel should have been sent to the Towu Clerk, Foxtou, but in error was sent by A. D. Willis and Co. to the Clerk at Wanganui. At the last meeting of the Borough Council a letter was read from the Secretary of the Band, asking for permission to hand over old uniforms in hand to the Ladies’ Sewiug Guild, to be used as they think best in connection with the making of garments lor the poor of Belgium. It was pointed out that the uniforms were useless as far as the Baud was concerned. At last night’s meeting the pet mission asked lor was granted. The funeral of the late daughter of Mr and Mrs A. S. Walsh took place yesterday afternoon. The pall bearers were six school companions of deceased, namely, Hiue Spring, Felicia Owen, Muriel Daniel!, Fiona Spring, Klla Patterson and Lucy Hussey. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev Mr Rowe. The casket was covered with beautiful floral tokens. The passing of Iris is keenly felt by her school mates, with whom she was a warm favourite.

At a meeting of the Council held on October 13, 1913, it was decided that the library he closed on Sundays and Wednesday afternoons. At last night’s meeting this resolution was rescinded on the motion of Cr Freeman, seconded by Cr McColl, and the following motion dealing with library and reading room hours, moved by Cr Freeman, and seconded by the Mayor, was passed : That the readingroom be opened on Sunday afternoons from 2 o’clock till 5, and be closed on Wednesday afternoons, and that the library be opened from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Wednesdays and Sundays.
