FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

COMMITTEE REPORTS. The following committee reports were submitted and adopted at last night's meeting of the Borough Council: GAS WORKS. A meeting of the Committee was held on May 21st. Present: The Mayor and Crs Coley, McColl and Henderson. The Committee visited the works, and then proceeded to Jenks street to inspect the lamp which it had been suggested to have removed to another site. It was decided that the matter be left over until a decision has been come to relative to laying the gas mains in Jenks street. Directions were giyen to the gas manager relative to fixing up lbs test meters on the lamps at the corners of Whyte and Clyde Streets. It was resolved to ask the gas manager to supply a report as to the vatious anomalies ic charges lor gas at lighting rates, PUBLIC WORKS. The Committee met on June 7th. Present : The Mayor and Crs Henderson, Coley, and Thompson. An inspection of the borough was made, and the following works were recommended : That a pipe drain, with one foot concrete pipes, be laid from Cook street to the Awahou drain, through the section behind Mrs Hudson's property. It was resolved to use the grader, to let the water off the road near Mr A. Ross’, in Purcell Street; to call on Mr W. F, G. Scott to clear noxious weeds from alongside bis property to the middle ol the road ; to patch ruts in Union street; that the Foxtou Cordage Company be requested to clear out the drain on their property ; that the grader be used iu water channels in Frances street ; that the Town Clerk give notice to property owners in Reeve and Frances streets to eradicate the noxious weeds fronting their properties ; to give Mr W. Banks fourteen days’ notice to clean out the drain on his property between Johnston and Reeve streets ; to let off the water in the corner of the Moutoa road ; that the grader be used in No. 6 Line, Cemetery road, Baker street, Norbiton road, Spring and Fuller streets, and where the roadman may deem necessary ; that a 36ft. pipe culvert be put across Fuller street; that the well at the windmill be recased ; that the Council’s staff erect the concrete trough at the windmill with such assistance as may be necessary, the size to be 12ft. by 2ft. by 2ft-; and to recommend tbe Council that 600 yards of metal be obtained. FINANCE. Meeting held on June nth. Present: The Mayor and Cr Whibley. An apology for absence was received from Cr Freeman. The vouchers having been read, accounts to the value of ,£420 14s 8d were approved for payment. The proposed estimates for the current year were adopted The Clerk was directed to tor ward Mr Adraore’s account lor £1 5s fur painting the window of the Moutoa Drainage Board office !o Mr Gower, chairman of the Drainage Board, with a request that the Board settle same. The Clerk was instructed to ask the Standard Insurance Company to readjust the premium on slock iu show room. It was resolved to recommend the Council to strike the following rales: General 3d, library bad, Hospital and Charitable Aid 3 ifiths ot a penny, gas and a sanitation charge, of 17s per pan. LIBRARY, Meeting held on Tune i.jth. Present; Councillors Freeman, Bryant and Stevenson. It was decided to lecommend that the public reading room be opened on Sunday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and that the library be opened daily, except Wednesdays, from 2 p.m, 104 p.m. The purchase of thirteen new books was authorised.
