SALE OF A BELGIAN FLAG.
Mis W. .Knewstub made and donated a silk Belgian flag to be offered for sale at the Variety Fair. Owing to an oversight, the flag was not offered at the fair, but was submitted to auction by Mr Hornblow at the ball last night. After a brief appeal the flag was bought and reoffered by the following ; —Mr Buckly ss, Mr Smith ss, T. G. O. While 10s, W. E. Barber ios,B. G. Gower 20s, Alf Fraser 10s, Mrs Austin-Johnston 10s, Mr Perreau 10s, Mr Jackson 10s, Mr Furrie 10s. Then it was put up for final sale, and as the bidding increased considerable Interest was evinced, and it was finally knocked down to Mr B. G. Gower for the handsome sum of £n 10s. Three rousing cheers were accorded Mr Gower, whose generosity to the Belgian Fund has been very liberal. The heifer presented by Mr G. O. Barber, was also sub mitted for sale, and was finally knocked down to Mr M, Perreau for £6. 10s. The sales of the flag and heifer realised a total ot £23.
