NEW ZEALAND LEADS.
Auckland, May 31. Mr Massey said it was anticipated there would be some difficulty lu getting men for a special force, as it meant 3000 extra men, but the men were coming forward in a -very satisfactory manner. He was proud to say New Zealand still leads the other Dominions in reinforcements, in proportion to the population, and it was intended to maintain that position while the war lasts. To the present New Zealand had despatched 17,000 men, and within the next fortnight there would be 7000 camped at Trentham, making a grand total of 25,000. Since the war began New Zealand has raised the following force ; First Samoan F'orce 2000 Main Body 8000 First Reinforcements 800 Second Reinforcements 2000 Third Reinforcements 1800 Samoan Relief Force 500 Fourth Reinforcements 2200 Fifth Reinforcements (say) 2000 Sixth Reinforcements (say) 2000 Fixtia Force 2500 Total in nine months 23,800 The Seventh Reinforcements to go into camp during the next two weeks will number 2000.
