VARIETY FAIR AND BALL.
On Thursday next in the Town Hall, the Variety Fair in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund will take place, to be followed on Friday evening by a plain, fancy dress and poster ball. As this is the last big special effort on behalf of the Belgian Fund, outside private contributions it is hoped that a record sum will be raised. The Fair is the biggest indoor affair of its kind yet held in Foxton, and all the sub-committees are working like trojans to ensure its success. It only remains for the public to do their part, and the results anticipated will be assur ed. The bail on F'rid ay evening will be a spectacular function. Tr.e interior of the hall will be specially decorated and illuminated, and this added to the blending of the colours to be worn by those taking part should present a line sight. Those who are averse to dancing can assist by purchasing tickets. The supper arrangements are in capable hands, and the music and floor will leave nothing to be desired.
Mr Len Freeman has donated twelve dozen of soft drinks to the Carnival, so that thirsty patrons will be well catered for.
Quite a number of gills are coming in for the various stalls. Messrs Colliuson and Cunninghame, ol Palmerston N. have donated a parcel of goods, and are senilug two poster dresses for the ball. Miss Pallaut, of Palmerston N., telephone No. 226, is prepared to hire fancy costumes for the ball. A list will be supplied on application. Tbe Mayor has succeeded in obtaining the services for the Fair of Madame Patriua Sigutia, one of the famous gipsy baud of fortune tellers, who, under the leadership ot Carlos Paleni, periodically travel Europe. The home of these people is on the sunny slopes of Tuskany, in Fast Italy. Madame is well-skilled in divining the past and tbe future. Full fortunes will be told for tbe sum of is and a brief past, present aud future for fid. Madame will be installed in a special tent attired in her national costumeTbe secretary acknowledges the following further gins for the Fair : —A Kopwood aud Co. parcel of faucy goods, A. S. Patterson and Co., j. Nathan and Co., Ellis aud Manton cigarettes, British Flrapire Trading Co., show cards ; Messrs John and Richard Speivs one ton ol potatoes, Mrs Walls box of chocolates, Mr Dawson, picture. Mrs Seabury will have charge of the produce stall. The tea-rooms will be in charge of Mesdames Jenks, Erase", Jas. Barber, and Alex, Ross. The supper arrangements for the ball are in the hands ol Mesdames Raine, Preston, C. Symons aud Fraser, The secretary acknowledges a cash donation of 10s from Mrs Thyuue seur.
