PRESENTATION.
Mr J. W. Hodgson, assistant postmaster, who has been trans ierred on promotion to postmaster at Otaki, was entertained by members of the local Masonic Lodge last night. Despite the short notice and the stormy night there was a good attendance of brethren. The W.M., Wor. Bro. Barber, presided. After the loyal toast had been honoured, the W.M. proposed the toast of the guest. On behalf of the lodge he regretted Bro. Hodgson’s departure, although the brethren were glad to know that his removal meant well deserved promotion. As secretary of the lodge during the past four years he had discharged his duties thoroughly and systematically and had won the universal esteem of the brethren. In order to mark the lodge’s appreciation of his work and as a token of esteem he would ask Bro. Hodgson to accept an appropiate jewel. Other brethren made eulogistic references to the departing brother, both in his Masonic and public capacity, and wished him success. The toast was drunk with musical honours after which Mr Hodgson suitably and feelingly replied. At the post office yesterday Mr Hodgson was made the recipient of a case of pipes from the staff. Mr Hawke, postmaster, made the presentation on behalf of the staff and wished Mr Hodgson success in his uew position. Mr Hodgson suitably acknowledged the expressions of good will and referred to the spirit of comradeship which existed among the staff. Mr Hodgson leaves for Otaki on Monday.
