PASSING OF A PIONEER.
Mr A. Hawke, local postmaster, received word yesterday, that his mother had passed away at Greytown the previous evening at the age of 79 years. The deceased lady was one of the few remaining colonists who came out iti the ship Roxborough in the year IS4O. Her parents, Mr and Mrs Thomas settled in the Hutt district for a number of years, subsequently removing to Grey town in 1553. Mrs Hawke and her late husband lived in Greytown 011 their farm for the remainder of their lives, and their hospitality was a by-word tbrougout the district. A family ot 13 are left to mourn the loss of a devoted mother, whose high principle and Christian character will be fondly cherished not only by them, but by all who were acquainted with deceased. The following are the members of the family : William (Masterton), John aud Fred (Hamilton), Charles (Martinborougb), Joseph and Frank (Napier), Harry (Greytown), Thomas (Gisborne), Arthur (Foxtou), George (Waihi), Mrs Krahagen (Carterton), Mrs James Baillie (Eketahuna) and Miss Hawke (Greytown). The fnneral will take place at Greytowu to-morrow.
