FOR OUR WOUNED.

YOUNG MEN’S CLUB FORMED. In response to the Mayor’s invitation, fifteen young rneu attended a meeting in the Council Chambers last night to discuss what steps should be taken to assist the girls in their efforts to supply clothing, etc., for the wounded New Zealanders. The Mayor explained that he did not wish the meeting to clash with any other effort, but to afford those who were unable to go to the front an opportunity to assist. He explained what the girls intended to do, and it was ior the young fellows to second the latter’s efforts. The idea was to provide funds to keep the girls busy. The Rev Mr Raine also addressed the meeting. He referred to the war, and said it was time we all realised the necessity for personal sacrifice. “If Great Britain goes down,” concluded the speaker, “our lives will not be worth living.” Mr Munro suggested that the hockey club should charge an admission fee to their matches, and hand over the proceeds to the fund.
