THE CARNIVAL.

Ail the committees are busy iu connection with the carnival and plain and fancy dress ball in aid of the Belgian Fund, to be held next week. The ball committee is very busy and this function promises to eclipse any previous ball yet held in Foxton. The decorations will be on a lavish scale and this, added to the fancy dresses, should provide a fine spectacular effect. The supper arrangements are in the hands of an energetic committee of ladies. Special music will be provided and the floor will leave nothing to be desired. Nondancers will be provided with plenty of amusement. The M’s.C. will see that everyone who wants to dance shall be kept busy. Tickets are going off well and everything points to the success of the gathering both from a social and financial point of view. Those who do not desire to attend can assist by purchasing tickets. The patriotic minstrels have their programme arranged for the Fair and we can assure the public that a treat is iu store ior them. The minstrels will take the stage at 7,45 and will follow the physical drill exercises by the local school children. The minstrels will sing some ot the very latest patriotic songs. A tobacco and fancy goods stall is iu course of preparation and all the merchants in Wellington and Palmerston North have been asked for donations. The book and jumble stall should be a great attraction. The committee will welcome gifts of anything saleable no matter what it is. All gifts will be thankfully received at the town hall any time from now up to the morning of the 3rd June. The trustees iu the estate of the late Mr James Barber have again generously donated a Shetland pony for disposal at the Fair and the committee are now arranging means of realising a good sura for it.
