“THE GREAT APPEAL.”
WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL “QUEEN” CARNIVAL In to-day’s issue there appears a fine patriotic poem entitled “The Great Appeal Give for our boys at the front.” These verses were wtillen by Mr David McLaren, ex-mayor of Wellington, for the purpose of assisting the great “Queen” Patriotic Carnival to be held on June yd. The reading of the poem should make patriotic citizens thrill with pride in the work of our gallant soldiers, and fill them with a desire to give the utmost assistance to the noble cause for which the Carnival is being held. This cause Is one which makes a claim on every resident. While our troops are helping us and upholding British honour and justice, the least we can do is to give a helping hand to the wounded, mid to assist in supporting the dependents of those who lose their lives. We must ensure that not one in capacitated soldier will ever be in need : that not one parent, wife, or child whose supporter has given his life for his country, will ever lack the necessaries and comforts of life. The lime to give is now, and the opportunity is provided by the “Queen ” Carnival’’, which will be thoroughly representative of the whole Province. Vou can help by voting 'for a “Queen” candidate, uf which there are fifteen ; or by offering goods of any kind for sale at the Harvest Festival, which will be held nightly at the Town Hall, Wellington. Above all, you cau help by a cash donation —any amount from one shilling to /5000 will be welcomed. The Carnival is being conducted by the New Zealand Patriotic Society, of which the secretary is Mr J. Lewis, iS Grey Street, Wellington.
