The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, May 18, 1915. DON’T FORGET !
Win EE we have 110 desire to deprecate local special efforts on behalf of the Belgian Relief Fund, we must not forget our responsibilities to the dependents of our brave New Zealanders whose lives have been sacrificed In the cause of the Empire’s freedom. Many have already fallen who contributed to the upkeep of their homes and aged parents, hundreds will come back crippled for life and unable to follow previous callings. True, the Government will put them on the pension list, and assist them in other directions, but something more than that will be required of us on their behalf. As the ever-increasing lists of wounded come to hand —and the worst is yet to come —the fact is borne in upon us that something must be held in reserve Irom the wells of public sympathy on their behalf. We are pleased to note that in Wellington and other large centres this matter is being taken up. It is as well, therefore, that we should remember we have yet a duty to perform by our brave defenders, and when the time comes we won’t forget.
