OBITUARY.
GEORGE A. GRAY, AGED 54.
It is with regret that we chronicle the death of a well-known and highly-respected erstwhile Foxton resident in the person of George Alexander Gray, which took place at his residence, 27 Konini Road, Haitaitai, at 1 o'clock yesterday. Deceased was stricken down with pleurisy and pneumonia about four weeks ago and despite skilled and devoted nursing, passed away as above stated, all the members of the family, excepting Willie, who is serving with the N.Z. troops at the front, were present. The late Mr Gray was a native o( Foxton and the son ol the late Alexander Gray, one of New Zealand's earliest settlers and a Foxton pioneer trader. Deceased spent most of his life in this district and always took a keen Interest in its welfare, He look a keen interest in general politics and was a loyal supporter of the Eiberal Party, He was connected with the local Racing Club for many years and on leaving Foxton for Wellington a few years ago, was made a life member of the club in recognition of past services. He was actively connected with the Volunteer movement and was a member of the old Foxton corps. He took an active interest in all kinds of sport. He was a member of the Borough Council for several years and also on the School Committee. He was also a prominent member of the local Masonic Lodge. A widow and family of six, three sons (Eric, Willie and Daniel) and three daughters(Leila, Nellie and Moana) are left to mourn their loss and to whom we, in common with the Foxton public, extend our heartfelt sympathy, The interrmeut will take place at Karori to morrow afternoon, and the deceased will be tendered a Masonic funeral.
