The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, April 27, 1915. TO-MORROW’S MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

The district electors will be called upon to-morrow to elect (i) a Mayor and (2) nine Councillors. The polling booth is the Borough Council Chambers and the polling hours are from 9 a.m. to 0 p.m. All persons whose names appear on the district electors’ list are qualified to record their votes. The list contains the names of 1018 voters. As there appears to be some misapprehension as to who is entitled to vote, we would point out that all persons over the age of 2i years male or female who have resided for three months past in the borough and whose names appear on the roll are entitled to vote. Separate ballot papers will be issued for the Mayoral and Council elections. The method of voting is to mark a cross opposite the name of the candidate or candidates for whom the voter requires to record bis or her vote, but it is perfectly legal to strike out the name or names of the candidate or candidates for whom the voter does not require to vote. To put it plainly if the cross system seems confusing all that the voter need consider is this: strike out the name of the candidate or candidates for whom it is noi desired to vote and leave uncancelled the name of the candidate or (candidates for whom the

f elector desires to vote. There are only two candidates names appearing on the Mayoral voting paper, Messrs Chrystall and Fraser. There are twelve names of candidates on the Council voting paper iin this order: Bryant, Coley, Freeman, Gardes, Henderson, Kerapster, McColl, Read, Stevenson, Simmons, Thompson, Whibley. The voter can vote for any number up to nine, but to exceed this number is, of course, to invalidate the voting paper. If these points are remembered there should be no necessity for making mistakes.
