THE WAR AND FINANCE.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER FOR DEFENCE.
The Hon. Jomes Alien slated to a reporter at Dunedin that the latest reports showed that the training of the expeditionary force had been very severe, but tbo men had stood up to it with excellent spirit and keenness, and we certainly had nothing to feat us regards comparisons. As to the probabilities of the men taking part in important service in the near future, it was necessary to observe perfect secrecy. Regarding Dominion finance for the year ended March 31st, the Minister slated that the probable receipts and expenditure show an even balance, and if that resulted it would be satisfactory, considering the decline in the Customs revenue. The Dominion's war expenditure was averaging approximately ,£300.000 monthly. The plans and specifications for the camp hospital at Treulhara were just about ready. It would not be a base hospital, but simply an adequately equipped hospital for the training camp at Treutbam. The building will cost about ,£2500 and the equipment will be all given.
