NATIONALISING THE FLAX AREAS.

The Haxmills Employees' Union has the chance of its life to put the ever-growing hemp industry on a sure foundation by assisting the agitation for the nationalisation of flax areas. Upon this fundamental point rests many of the grievances which they seek to get redressed and about which they are continually prodding the miller, who. they know, is in the grip of the flaxowner, who gets off scot free. Eet the State secure the areas and throw them open in suitable blocks and under conditions which will assure future cultivation of the green blade, and the worker need never fear for continuous employment and equitable industrial conditions. The State takes absolutely no risk in acquiring the areas, but on the other hand, will be handsomely recouped with a surplus to aid the greater development of the industry. It is of the most vital interest to the Union to take a hand in this matter and we hope the executive will hit the iron while it is hot.
