The manager and all the employees at the Whitaunui mill agreed to a cessation of operations on the day of the Moutoa Sports. The sum of £s was donated by the mill employees to tire and the cutlers at the same give £lO. A donation of money was also received from the Maitai employees on the day of the Carnival. Sports results ; Pea guessing Mr Kirkland, 1916 (exact number 1939) ; gents chain stepping, E. Roe I (90 entries) ; boy rider, J, Xewth 1 ; tilting in the ring, E, Ingram 1 ; 220 yards, O’Grady 1 ; 100 yards, O Grady 1 ; ladies driving, Miss Pedersen 1 : gents driving, F. Dudson 1 ; lady rider. Miss Burr 1 : ladies nail driving, Mrs Dudson 1 ; school girls nail driving, Miss B. Spring 1 j hunters competition, J. Waller I and 2 : ladies chain stepping, Miss Newth 1 : thread the needle race, F. Dudson 1 : Tug of-War, the Settlers defeated the Flaxmills employees; tug of war ou horseback, Shannon J ; best turn-out, Mrs Morgan 1 ; turning competition, Moyuihan 1 ; maiden jump, Smith 1 ; pony jump, Ingram 1.
The total amount in hand is about with several subs, to come in. The expenses total about Mr W. H. Field, M.P., who was unable to be present forwarded a donation of
The committee desire to thank Messrs G. Barber, F. Woods, W. K. Barber and Johnson for valuable assistance. The refreshment stall was presided over by Mesdames Galland and Newth; jumble and produce stall, Mrs Hall : sweets stall; Misses Newth and S. Picket: soft drinks, etc., Miss Bowe.
