SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting ol the State School Committee was held on Thursday evening. Present : Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Chrystal!, Henderson, Hussey, Mitchell, Tompson, and Woods. An apology for absence was received from Mr Betty. The Chairman reported that the Board’s architect had inspected the school in respect to the ventilation of certain class rooms, but no report had been received from the Board as to the result oi the architect’s report. Correspondence was received from the Board, stating that a deputation bad waited upon the Minister for Education urging grants for ad ditious to the school and other works in the Board's district. The Chairman said he believed the Department had sanctioned the grant. The head teacher reported that the attendances for the past lour weeks were, 369'c, 368 - o, 355*6, and 364 ; tire average tor the whole period was 304.3, out of an average roll of 391, being 93 per cent, of the possible; the present roll number is 395 ; a small sum was asked to be spent in making the teachers’ room more comfortable. The report was received, and the visitors weie authorised to inspect the teachers room and report at next meeting. MrChrystall presented the visitors’ report, which dealt exhaustively with the excellent condition of the grounds and gardens. It was decided to effect repairs to the fence, paint the tin trough in the lava tory, and erect a perforated pipe for flushing the gutter in the boys’ urinal. The carrying out ot the work was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr Chrystall. The question of accommodation for technical classes was held over until official intimation was received from the Board re same. The question of top-dressing the tennis court was hold over. A discussion took place on the subject of swimming baths, and it was decided to see what action the Council would take in the matter. The Chairman and Mr Henderson were appointed visitors for the month. Accounts were passed for payment and the meeting rose.
