BOWLING.
Foxton’s long delayed challenge match for the Manson and Barr Cup was played ou the Feilding green yesterday afternoon, when the holders successfully defended their right to retain possession of the trophy. The challenging rink was skipped by Hislop. Another Foxton rink, under the direction of skip Rimmer, also visited Feilding, with the intention of playing for the Yates Feathers, but were unable to compete for these trophies, as they can only be played for by rinks from Feilding and Palmerston. Yesterday was the first occasion on which rinks from the Foxton Club had visited Feilding, and although unsuccessful in winning a trophy, the visitors thoroughly enjoyed the outing. The Feilding green is In tip top condition, and the Foxtonites were very hospitably treated by the home players. In the Manson aud Barr Cup match, Foxton started off very badly, it being the seventh head before they succeeded iu “drawing blood,” Feilding by this time having put on nine. The home team added two singles on the eighth and ninth heads, aud Foxton got in another single on the tenth. On the eleventh and twelfth heads the home team got singles, and Foxton scored one ou the"thirteenth. A three to Feilding on the next head brought their score to 16, and when the afternoo,n-tea adjournment was taken the score read, Feilding 16, Foxton 4, with six heads to play. On resuming, Feilding scored a three aud a single, but after this Foxton “bucked up” and put ou ten in the last tour heads, which made the final score 20—14 in favour of the holders of the Cup. Iu the other match the visitors made the pace warm from the start, and bad put on 14 to their opponents’ six at afteruoou-tea time, when there were still seven heads to play. “The cup that cheers,” however, apparently put fresh life into the home players, as they scored eleven on the first three heads after resuming play, but after the nineteenth head the score was even, 17 all. On the twentieth head Feilding was four down when the skips went up, but McQueen played two real good shots, giving Feilding one up. In the final head Feilding was lying one, when D. Whibley took the jack to the ditch, the bowl following, and leaving Foxton two up. McQueen's first bowl was a beauty, saving one, but Rimmer played an equally good one, and knocked it into the ditch. Foxton three up, and the score Foxton 20, Feilding 18. The following were the teams : Feilding. Foxton. Clapham Ball Robertson Barber Bartholomew Woods Chappell (s) 20 Hislop (s) 14 Hazell F. Whibley Harford Hore Mills D. Whibley McQueen (s) 18 Rimmer (s) 20
