POPE'S PRAYER FOR PEACE.
The Pope has ordained that on 21st March in places out of Europe a prayer for deliverance from the horrors of war and for the restoration of peace shall be said in all Catholic Churches, The prayer has.been written by the Pope, and is as follows : "Aghast at the horrors of the war, which is bringing ruin to peoples and nations, we take refuge, O Jesus, iu Thy loving Heart. Compassionate God, we implore Thee, with lamentations-, for the cessation of this terrible scourge ; to Thee, King ol Peace, we hasten with our prayers for the peace for which we long ; from Thy divine Heart bestow charity and mercy upon the world, in order that love only may reign among men. On earth Thou hadsl feelings of the tenderest pity for human misfortunes, so iu this grave hour for us of melancholy hatreds and terrible massacres, may Thy Heart be moved with pity for the mothers trembling for their children, for the orphaned families, and for the misery of Europe. Inspire the Governments and peoples with good counsels ; remove the dissensions which are tearing the nations asunder, and will that men again give the kiss of peace. ■ As Thou didst reply to the cry of the Apostle Peter, Save us Lord, or we perish, appeasing the tempestuous sea, so to-day reply to our prayers, restoring peace and tranquillity to the world. Thou, also, Holy Virgin, as heretofore, aid, protect and save us.’’
