BOWLING.

Matters in connection with the challenges for the Manson and Barr Cup have been considerably mixed. The local club issued a challenge on January 6th, and received advice two days later that the challenge had been accepted, but that there were two before them. Since then some half-dozen challenge matches have been played, Foxton having received no further advice. On February 20th arrangements were made with the then holders to play a fortnight later, but in the meantime the trophy changed hands, and the new holders were not advised of Foxton’s challenge, and accepted another match for the same date. Foxton stood down, and last week a match was arranged per telephone for yesterday. However, a further disappointment was in store for the* local players, advice being received on Tuesday evening, that Feilding’s challenge game, which was to have been played last Saturday had been postponed until yesterday, on account of unfavourable weather. No further arrangements have yet been made, but it looks as if the local rink will be lucky to get a game for the Cup .this season. There was a good master on the green yesterday. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Perreau. The following are the results of games played in the pairs competition Bryaut and Nye (6) 28 beat Gardes and Hislop (scr.) 19, F, Whibley and Barber ('3) 29 beat Ball and McColl (6) 20, and Ball and McColl (6) 45 beat Bryaut and Nye (6) 15.

Terrace End did not retain possession of either the Dixon or Mansou and Barr Cups long, losing both trophies yesterday. The Mauson and Barr Cup was won by a Feilding rink skipped by Chappel, who defeated the holders by 17 points to 15, and Woodville accounted for the Dixon Cup holders, the scores being, Woodville 28, Terrace End ?5-
